Okay...so I am pretty frustrated... ;-)

My new computer means that some of my programs need to be updated....

One of them...my web designer....

So...the calendar.... for any of my sites...is grossly outdated...

lol..it looks like we arent booked anywhere...

and honestly... we are doing pretty well this year.... more than last year...and durn it... Im kind of burned out on the road... sigh...

New program soon.... but still almost too busy to get to it...

and... a few of you wrote and said " Hi." We will be posting our up-coming gigs very soon. It's only January and we have already contracted more shows then we did last year.... which I KNOW because I am currently working on my taxes.... sigh....

Anyhow... we missed Florida this year, been there long enough ...all things cyclical ya know ?

Sadly...due to the fact we have been out on tour for awhile... as all things cyclical... we won't be returning to some of the fairs... but..we have new ones lining up. As though the new ones even know who we are enough to read this site....

What a year. Summer was awesome for us...and we have gained a whole new group of fans and performance spaces....
Unfortunately, due to a computer crash...and being on the road during most of that time...I was just unable to update here as often as I would have liked...but I am catching up. New Snazzy computer... new drummers.... AND.... a whole new idea for a show that could possibly put us on stages around the world....
and so it goes....

Just wanted to say that....
Wow.. it is really out of control this summer. We basically have three troupes at work. Well, sort of... One troupe : RyEPercussion is hard at work in the lovely city of Rye, New York. Getting great comments and just pounding away. It won't be long before they are traveling around the area and performing on the east coast. We still have two major fairs coming up and... another troupe has formed to perform for a special college event in Yuma AZ in the upcoming months.

Now, here is something kind of cool... and yet...not really associated with RePercussion. Two of my main drummers will be performing most if not all of the summer on Citiwalk, Universal Studios Hollywood. A new show has formed and friends of mine produced and wrote it... and luckily... when I suggested two of our main drummers to play with them... they passed the audition and can now be seen on citiwalk.

And... another drum group has been found... due to the untimely demise of..."the other" band...( I am sure he considered himself competition)... lol... all competition is good...it is odd to compete against your own show. But, well, that band is gone... and apparently he not only stole my show when he was doing it... but he stole someone elses name as well.
I wont point ya to his site... but here is a great site of another team...

What a rush. This summer is truly out of control. So many projects happening. Currently a west coast troupe ready for our next big run... and an east coast troupe bracing for their opening, and me knee-deep in a few growing projects. If youre reading this site from time to time, thanks.
Sure, we have a myspace... lol... apparently everyone does now.. but we are still very happy to have our real website RePercussion .
But, if you have been there lately, you'll notice it hasnt been updated.
Why ?
Cause...we are too durn busy. Seriously, till labor day, we are even lucky to post here... Our agents are hard at work, and we continue to get called back to our yearly events. I never thought I would be moving this fast, but requests for merchandise has hit an all time high...and requests for a CD has actually driven us to consider creating it. However, one of the reasons we do this show is to keep it on the street. No real instruments, no electronics....and just a good time.
Not bad for a group that started as school shows about recycling....

Wow... experiment complete ! My ears have finally cleared from flying to New York and getting RePercussions newest team together... currently known as our east coast contingent...RyePercussion. How cool is that.. I won't even tell you how many drummers showed up at the audition, because you wouldn't believe me, but we got three really awesome drummers for the show ready to go. Phil, Jerome and Roy. And they are in the midst of making sure their subs are set and ready to cover for any unforseen situation. Playland looks amazingly like it did when I performed there in 1991. And yet, a lot of the old stuff is gone too. The crowd will no doubt be some of the best our show has seen as they were receptive even during our slammed rehearsal/cleanup shows. Repercussion is really getting jazzed for an awesome summer, even though the youregettingsleepy site hasnt been updated, nor trashcandrummers.com. Honestly, I'm just having too much fun on the blogs.

Yup, its that time. Tonight I get on a plane, go to New York and cast and rehearse the show for Playland. All in two days. Money isnt grea for the drummers, but it's pretty exciting to have the opportunity. I just hope drummers show up. Of curse the last audition I had led to me hiring one drummer that has since stole the show, started his own drum show, called all of my producers and actually had a run of about a year of shows. I've run into a few of his drummers since his show closed and it was pretty much the way I assumed it would be... but ..as I always say competition is a good thing. Never expected to compete against my own show though..lol.
But... Im sure he is doing well on his own anyway...

We are bracing for an insane summer. A full summer show is prepared for Westchester, New York. Our usual summer gigs are lined up and drummers are being arranged. My schedule is insane. We have the summer show at a NY theme park...Auditions soon and then rehearsals immediately. Rye, New York, coincidentally, my old stomping ground. You've heard me talk of a competitor in this area, trying to take gigs from me... which is fine cause competition is always good, but rumor has it... they are no longer. Its not an easy business. There are a lot of good teams out there, and from what I have heard..this guy had the wrong'tude. Oh well...it was a fun run while it lasted and I wish him luck in the future.. lol... apparently, he reads this site as well... heheheheheheheee... I was thinking of sending roses to my mom. Mainly because when I ask she will always say, send roses . So I will, but mom, did ya know you can cook with flowers !
Sue Lawrence from Scotsman.com reminds us that for hundreds of years, petals and whole flowers have been used in the kitchen. The Romans added lavender to honey and used marigolds for their colour and flavour. I've seen recipes contain nasturtiums, borage and lavender. But before you just start cooking away, please, make sure that the flowers are unsprayed, then carefully expel any wildlife by giving them a good shake or a wipe with kitchen paper Probably the most versatile edible flower is the nasturtium. Shred its young leaves into salads or add them to sandwiches with cream cheese. Snip off the whole flowers from the stems and add them to vegetables, fish or pasta. Their pungent, peppery taste is also the perfect match for mild-tasting ingredients such as avocados. Scotherbs (www.scotherbs.co.uk) sells edible flowers as well as fresh pestos and salsas

Here's a great dish ! NASTURTIUM AND AVOCADO TAGLIATELLE . Serves four 350g dried tagliatelle olive oil 2 ripe avocados, peeled and stoned juice of 1 large lime 2 tbsp crème fraîche 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper 20 nasturtium flowers Cook the tagliatelle and drain thoroughly. Pour in a good drizzle of olive oil, add some salt and pepper and toss through. While the pasta is cooking, chop the avocados and place in a food processor with the lime juice, crème fraîche and cayenne pepper. Blend well, then season to taste. While the pasta is still piping hot, toss the avocado mixture with the pasta. Add most of the flowers, reserving the best for a garnish, and toss the pasta again, until thoroughly mixed. Serve at once, sprinkling with the remaining nasturtiums. CARROT CAKE WITH THYME FLOWERS This is my adaptation of the famous carrot cake at Cape Town’s Mount Nelson Hotel. For the cake 4 large free-range eggs 400g golden caster sugar 175ml sunflower oil 250g self-raising flour, sifted 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda 1 tsp ground cinnamon 450g grated carrots (peeled weight) 90g chopped walnuts For the frosting 200g light cream cheese 50g butter, softened 3 tsp orange flower water 100g golden caster sugar handful of thyme flowers Whip the eggs and sugar until pale and creamy, then slowly add the oil (on low speed if using a mixer). Fold in the flour, bicarbonate of soda, a pinch of salt and the cinnamon, then fold in the carrot and nuts. Once combined, tip the mixture into a deep 24cm springform cake tin (buttered) and bake in a preheated oven (180¼C/350¼F/gas 4) for an hour and 15 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean. Cover loosely with foil for the last 20 minutes or so. Place the cake on a wire rack and release the sides of the tin. Leave it to cool completely before placing on a serving plate. Beat the cream cheese and butter together and then beat in the flower water and sugar. Once the mixture is smooth, spread it over the cake and decorate with thyme flowers.

We updated the main site, as some of you noticed. I am now updating the blog.
We have a new performance space, but as is typical, the competition is on our heels. So, contact me individually for the dates and times. It's still in its "beta" stage, so having another "band" trying to underbid us would cause a little bit of stress... not too mention...that if the other "band" actually performed, there is a good chance the management would never want another trash can band again... Take a look at how bad six flags did after last years use of them....heheheheheee.
A few interesting projects in the works as well...that phone call in the previous post worked out pretty well. News to follow...

Our teams have been getting great responses in the new venues...and once all the paper work is done we will advertise in a big way... We are, as I have stated, avoiding any complication with a certain " other" drum show. There have been complications already with their attempting to contact all of my previous producers... but we continue. Luckily... producers know quality and continue to use us...and continue to let me know when they are approached. Either way, competition, though annoying in this case, is usually good. It wouldn't be bad at all, had they not basically stolen our show...lol... but bring it on...

Slow time...

As a variety performer I have grown use to a slow down period. Usually happens in January... sometimes it bleeds into February... then the clouds lift, and you're off to another year. There is a light visible now for RePercussion. During the down time, we have been working on our new website. trashcandrummers.com. Working on gathering a business plan. ( seven years of this and you would think I would have one ...but noooooooo. ) And we have been performing the odd small private show here and there. But, now contracts have been sent out and signed. Plans are coming together... Plots are hatching. As you follow the adventure, please stay in touch.
We are off to perform this evening...even getting phone calls to clarify things as I type.

South Florida fair ..Part Deux....

Thai Chicken Salad.....
yup.... three days of food poisoning.
As near as we could guess, the culprit was consumed here...

And then there were more seminars... and this guy... he followed us everywhere....
it was really kind of odd.... then we discovered ...he is our agent. Mark !

So, RePercussion was off to the South Florida fair. Great crowds, great weather, and of course funnel cakes.

Here is the team : (from left to right )Danny, Matt and David. And starring the mysterious cart unlike any we have found. The trash cans of which were the worst we have ever bought.
They fell apart on day one !

Danny even tried to fit in from time to time.

After every day it was off to the mall to rehone our skills.

Danny dreaming of real drums.

And Matt dreaming of not hearing trash cans pounding.

Danny fit in to the show quite well.
Luckily he had worked for a competitor of ours prior to joining us and
if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,
copying a show must be outright admiration.

Danny knew our show, because our competition uses our stuff !

How cool is that ?

By day six, Matt had forgotten how to hold the sticks properly...
so apparently now we are stealing stuff from our competitor.... ;-)

Wow.... will wonders never cease. Please pay no attention to the previus post. WE ARE GOING TO FLORIDA!!! West Palm Beach here we come... a quick reschedule and some panicked plans and we are on our way...
Matt and David and the yet to be named third drummer are packing their bags... we thought we were just going to be doing local shows in January... but it just goes to show ya ya never know...

Fort Bend fair this year was touch and go... something about Rita... the Hurricane...
they actually evacuated the fair a few days prior to our arrival... and our original date was cancelled. After Rita went tropical storm..we went to the fair....
and here is the story...

but it didn't stop the weather... but it did hold back the crowds...

Columbus Ohio.... Ohio State Fair...an awesome time had by all...
We hope they ask us back...
The Drummers ?

We had some great shows...and a typical drumming seminar after each...

We even parked next to the Bat Copter.... How cool is that ???

And the sites we saw... of course we had to see the butter cow....

and... we were a little sad to realize how many other butter sculptures we had missed...

and of course our lodging...for the first half of the fair....
We aren't sure...but it must be a bar-b-que place...cause one friday... they had a pig on a spit...
something ya rarely see in a hotel parking lot....

But we missed the real columbus entertainment... kind of reminded David of home oddly enough.... He was a collegiate wrestler...

Whats it Take ?

A lot of drummers come up to us after our shows and jam with us. Quite a few ask if they can play with us... and soon..that possibility may exist.

We are increasing our shows and our teams. And we are using people from across the globe to play with us...

What does it take to be a RePercussion drummer ?

Well, ya might think being a percussionist. And, yeah, thats a start... but we have used a lot of drummers that just couldn't handle the gig ..

What's so hard ?

Well, we do a lot of shows. We do shows all over the US and soon... globally.
Almost more importantly than "chops" is the right attitude and personality.

Yeah, we have " fired " some drummers... lol. Some have gone on to start their own shows even. We love competition. heheheheee... Makes us look better. We eat that competition for breakfast.
(In the future... I may even send ya to their sites... we'll let you decide.)

And we have competition that makes us work harder. Procrastinators... you guys rock.
And of course, the masters of the stage.. STOMP... ( one of our guys is with them now ) We aren't even in your league...
Freddie... you guys rule the corporate world.

We however, bring it to the street. Unlike any other...

Our show started at Universal Studios Hollywood. We will never speak poorly of them.

But... what can you bring to the show that will keep ya with us ?

Well...here is what you can do to drop off our list.

1. Lousy attitude... We share a lot of time on the road... as Mark says. " it's all about the fellowship "

2. Poor ambassador.. lol... sound odd ? Well, we started out doing school shows...and still do...
and.. David .. the leader of the pack... is opposed to any illegal substances....Granted, we have yet to get to the point of random drug testing... but... we have lost a few drummers 'cause they thought they played better when they were "under". Instant termination...

3. Lousy attitude. Oh did I mention that already ? Yeah... its that important. Whiners need not apply... No one likes a whiner...

4. oh yeah... one more... timing. lol... musical ability. Or at least be able to hold a drum stick.
Heck if David can play for RePercussion... anyone that can at least hold a stick should be able to... ( ya know .. it's just a joke David... )

5. Respect others. Huh ? Man oh man... we work side by side with some real interesting acts.
Some days we are working with clowns...literally... and the next... our break room is shared with pigs...also literally. We do our best to be liked by all... and we do our best to like them as well.. We respect our co-workers...and our crowd. We hope you guys respect us.
We lose more drummers because of that... lol.... the three characters... Reduce, Re-Use, and Recycle... all do our best to Respect...
Maybe it's cause David is an Eagle Scout... who knows...
but...
Keep an eye out for us in your area... We may be having auditions soon... and...
if ya think you can fit in... we would be glad to have ya...

Yup, Madison, Wisconsin....
The Dane County Fair... And, RePercussion has already been invited back next year !

here are some highlights !

It is 24 hours... and the first restaurant in Wisconsin to be so. As a matter of fact, when the first opened, it was illegal to actually be open 24 hours so ... they beat the system. 2 clocks.

One is a minute later than the other. So...that one minute they close to change shifts... but in reality the doors are always open. I'm not really sure either... but it works for them. And the service was pretty fast...or a minute slower than we would have liked.
